Dual Weighing System Retrofit Completed for 33 RTGs at Tianjin Alliance
A 33-unit RTG dual-weighing retrofit at Tianjin Alliance Container Terminal — including 20 twin-lift RTGs — went live in October 2025.
The retrofit project for 33 rubber-tyred gantry cranes at Tianjin Alliance Container Terminal commenced in March 2025 and was commissioned in October 2025. Twenty of the 33 cranes are twin-lift RTGs.
Within the first weeks of operation the system identified that 1 % of lifts involved overloads and another 1 % showed severe imbalance from mixed empty/loaded container handling — allowing operators to adjust lifting methods in time.
The redundant dual-system design enables real-time cross-validation of weighing data and continuous recalibration of load sensors. During the retrofit two hoisting brake faults were detected and repaired before they could escalate into accidents.
